About Karina

First off, I am a stay-at-home mom to two wonderful kids, and wife to a great husband!

I received a sewing machine for my birthday in January, 2011, and really started using it that September once we moved away from family and friends (I really needed something to do)!  I had always wanted to start quilting, so I picked up some quilting books and got started.  My sister was on her way to having her second baby boy, so I started with this quilt:

I was in love.  I can't believe it took my so long to find this passion!  I started a second baby quilt for another friend of mine and also loved the outcome.

The Naked Spool has been born out of the many reasons I end up with spools gone bare: Quilting. Crafting. A need just to feel like I've created something today. A sewing machine that likes to eat up thread. Kids who love to find the end of the thread and watch the spool roll along the floor...

I've created this blog mostly for myself, to help document my creative adventures, but also for my husband (poor soul), who tirelessly listens to in-depth analysis of my sewing experiments that have or have not gone haywire! I hope to encourage others to follow their passions, even if they haven't quite mastered them yet (or have not yet figured out what they are)!

I've tried a few new things along the way...please feel free to peruse through my blog to see how things are going!  I'd love to hear what you think!

p.s. a few more things: I love creating things, even if they turn out darn ugly (so look out)!  I am always on the search for vintage Pyrex bowls.  I LOVE getting things in the mail.  I still haven't found my sewing/crafting niche, but hopefully this blog will help me find it (I'm on my way)!  I'm proud to say that I have more than one naked spool in my sewing room (which is also my laundry room) and there will be plenty more where that came from.  Homemade ice cream, cookies, freshly picked blueberries, tiny things.  Hugs from my kids.  Long-distance phone calls.  So much more that you'll hopefully find out along the way!
